Our fearless leader, Suzanne sat down and shared some of her thoughts with us as we asked her questions about what it's like to work with brides and own your own business. Let's dive in.
What's your favorite part of working with brides?
Brides are extraordinarily happy people. To be a part of making them beautiful for their wedding day is what I love most and a responsibility I don't take lightly.
When did you start sewing?
My mom is a seamstress and I started learning from her when I was 5 years old:)! We don't need to do that math! I have been sewing professionally for over 40 years and have done over 25,000 brides in my career.
What do you like to do when you're not working?
That's a rare thing lately to not be working lol. I have been putting in long hours at the shop. When I do get time off my husband and I are musicians. That is my other passion in life. We love to play and sing.
What's one piece of advice you'd give to brides?
Don't sweat the small stuff. Find joy in any situation and keep your eye on the prize: Your wedding day, your spouse, your new life. There are no problems as far as I'm concerned, only answers and nothing is worth your peace and joy. Happiness is a state of mind after all:)!
What's something about the alteration process that you wished brides understood more?
That it takes time. Fittings are a process. Nothing happens overnight and that's true for alterations. It's quite normal to need multiple fittings and all I ask is for brides to communicate how they are feeling and we'll work together to make your gown fit perfectly for your special day.
With this week being thanksgiving, we wanted to take a minute to say just how thankful we are for you. When Suzanne sold the bridal store and opened up the alterations business, we had no idea just how busy you'd keep her! She's had such a great first year as solely Suzanne's Sewing Service, and we're just so grateful for all of you.
We love you SO MUCH Suzanne! (AND staff!) Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, for making our bridal dresses exactly how we needed them to be! And for all of the love & kindness too!! Love, Kerri Martin &
